- America's Great Outdoors Listening Session Friday 7/30/10
Climbers,Here is some information from The Access Fund regarding a "Listening Session" on Friday July 30th, 3-6pm at CU. This is another good way to have our voices heard!___________________________________________The Outdoor Industry Association is holding a “homegrown” listening session on America’s Great Outdoors this Friday, July 30 at the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business from 3:00-6 PM. This is a supplement session to the Obama Administration’s America’s Great Outdoors Initiative listening session tour, focused specifically on the outdoor recreation community’s role in shaping a 21st-century conservation and recreation agenda. As a leader of our climbing community, I encourage you to attend. This is a unique opportunity to help set the national conservation agenda with a recreational focus. The input generated at this session will inform the report delivered to the President this fall. I will be facilitating one of the breakout sessions, so at the very least show up to heckle me.For more information on the America’s Great Outdoors initiative, visit www.accessfund.org/ago. I have also attached the Outdoor Industry Association’s briefing memo to this email. Please RSVP by tomorrow if you can make it (see below).I hope to see you there!Brady RobinsonExecutive Director | The Access FundTel 303-545-6772 x101_____________________________________________ - New Route Approved by Climbing Community & FHRC

- May 17, 2010 - Eldorado Raptor Closure Lifted
The seasonal wildlife closure on Redgarden Wall, from The Naked Edge (pitch 3- top) through Sidetrack, has been lifted because there has been no nesting activity in the area. All of Regarden Wall is now open to climbing.
The cliffs of Eldorado are crucial breeding grounds for birds of prey. These birds are sensitive to human disturbance during their nesting and roosting cycle. People who stray too close to a nest can scare off parent birds. Even if the nest is not abandoned, disturbance can cause nest failure. Eggs need to be constantly incubated. Newly hatched raptors can’t regulate their own body temperature and frightened juvenile birds might attempt to fly before they are ready.
In accordance with federal law, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and Colorado State Park’s own mission of balancing resource use and preservation, Eldorado Canyon State Park began implementing seasonal raptor closures in 1990. Thanks to the cooperation of the climbing community, Eldorado has successfully fledged prairie falcons over most of the intervening years. Eldorado Canyon State Park staff and raptor monitor volunteers thank you and all climbers for adhering to the closures.
Sincerely,
Steve Muehlhauser
