My first climb in Eldo was the Northwest Corner on the Bastille, and I vividly recall thinking, “gosh, I hope I don’t fall and rip all these pins out!” I was coming from the land of desert splitters, so Eldo offered a whole new kind of trad for me. Early on, I was fortunate to meet partners that showed me all over the canyon and encouraged me to get on climbs at my limit. I learned to fiddle in gear and trust RPs (sort of!). To me, the tradition of Eldo is unique and worth preserving, but should be balanced with safety considerations as well. With ACE, I look forward to giving back to the canyon and its climbers all that they have given to me.
